The collaboration between OMS and AB Midden Nederland
OMS, a logistics company specializing in the distribution and warehousing of non-food products for Lidl, has been active since 2010 and is part of the Rietveld Logistics Group. Tomasz Rokita, DC Manager at OMS, has been with the company since the beginning and shares the story of this growing enterprise and what the collaboration with AB Midden Nederland entails.
The founding and growth of OMS
OMS started in 2010 with a single warehouse but has since expanded into an impressive operation with four warehouses, totaling 200,000 square meters of storage space. “This warehouse alone covers 90,000 square meters,” Tomasz proudly says as he looks around. “The old section dates back to the early years, and we started using the new section in 2017.”
The establishment of OMS resulted from a takeover by Arie Rietveld, owner of Rietveld Logistics Group. The company that previously operated at this location decided to withdraw, giving Arie Rietveld the opportunity to establish OMS and continue working with Lidl.
The strategic location of OMS, close to the port of Rotterdam and the Oosterhout Container Terminal, which is also owned by Arie Rietveld, plays a crucial role in the company’s efficiency.
A reliable partner
The collaboration between OMS and AB Midden Nederland dates back to 2013, but the ties between Rietveld Logistics Group and AB Midden Nederland are much older. Arie Rietveld, owner of Rietveld Logistics Group, has been working with AB Midden Nederland for over 20 years. When he founded OMS, he decided to extend this successful partnership to his new company.
Tomasz describes the collaboration as open and honest. “Over the years, we have built a strong relationship. If something doesn’t work or needs to change, we can talk about it openly. We always solve problems together,” he says.
Roles of AB Midden Nederland employees at OMS
Currently, about 35 temporary workers from AB Midden Nederland are employed at OMS. Their work plays a crucial role in the daily logistics processes within the company. They are mainly involved as offloaders, forklift drivers, and in the control of incoming and outgoing goods, also known as checkers.
Containers with goods often arrive without pallets to save space during transport. These containers are manually unloaded by the workers. The goods are then stacked on pallets, after which the checkers ensure that everything is correctly stacked, properly sealed, and that the correct number of products is on the pallets.
The pallets are then labeled and transported by forklifts and reach trucks to the appropriate destination in the warehouse, from where they are eventually sent to the stores.
Quality over quantity
Although OMS works with several staffing agencies, AB Midden Nederland distinguishes itself, according to Tomasz, through its professional approach. “Each staffing agency has its own way of working. For example, AB Midden Nederland doesn’t always have people available for the next day, which shows they prioritize quality over quantity. However, if we need people urgently, we can rely on other agencies that have staff ready to go.”
Future plans and innovations
OMS is not standing still. With new developments in the warehouses, such as the introduction of AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) and other technological advancements, the company continues to innovate. AB Midden Nederland plays a role in this by ensuring that our employees have the right certifications and skills to work with these new technologies.
The strength of collaboration
The collaboration between OMS and AB Midden Nederland is an example of how a strong and long-term relationship can contribute to a company’s success. Thanks to the longstanding partnership with Rietveld Logistics Group, AB Midden Nederland has proven to be a reliable partner capable of providing skilled temporary workers.
